Northridge acts for Reliance on investment in Oval Invincibles franchise

Northridge advised Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, on its investment in the Oval Invincibles franchise in The Hundred.  The investment completed on 3 December 2025.

The deal gives Reliance a 49% stake in the franchise and Surrey County Cricket Club a 51% stake, transferring ownership from the England and Wales Cricket Board.  As part of this new partnership, from the 2026 season, both the men’s and women’s teams will compete under the new name MI London, joining the global Mumbai Indians family of teams. Mumbai Indians (MI), owned by Reliance Industries Limited through its subsidiary Indiawin Sports, is a global cricketing powerhouse and one of the most successful cricket brands in T20 history.

This recent deal adds to Northridge’s experience acting on investments in cricket, having previously acted for Yorkshire County Cricket Club on the sale of its Hundred team the Northern Superchargers to the Sun Group earlier this year.

The Northridge deal team included Ian Lynam, Victoria Scopes, George Willis, Jamie Feldman, Philippa Scott, Scott Treleaven, Felicity Williamson-Sarll, Anna Corderoy and Laurence Daly.

Northridge worked alongside Khaitan & Co as joint external counsel to Reliance on this matter.

On behalf of Reliance, Nita M Ambani added:
“We are delighted to welcome MI London into the #OneFamily and take the MI legacy to new frontiers. London holds a special place in the heart of cricket, and we are honoured to be part of its rich heritage. Together with Surrey, we look forward to nurturing young talent, engaging diverse communities and uniting fans through their shared love of the game.”
