Super League shake-up calls for specialised expertise

Northridge has a strong track record in advising on competition restructure and the firm was appointed by the Rugby Football League in March 2018 to assist with the planned restructure of the Super League.

The new Betfred Super League structure will feature 12 clubs with one team relegated to, and one promoted from, the RFL Championship each season. The new agreement guarantees funding for clubs at all levels beyond the current broadcast deal.

Restructuring and launching new competitions draws on our capacity to advise on a blend of constitutional, commercial and contentious matters. We have recent first-hand experience in this area having advised on the launch of the FA Women’s Super League and the FIH Hockey Pro League.

“Working with Jon Walters and Mike Herbert, I am always impressed with their ability to provide legal advice in a practical and easily understandable way. Their thorough knowledge of the sports industry (not just Rugby League) meant that, in addition to providing thorough legal advice, they were able to add value in relation to our wider strategy and approach.”.
